The Sea of Tranquility

Do you see the four dark craters on the north east section of the moon? Okay, in the center of those four circles is a six sided plateau, just below that feature is the Sea of Tranquility. Humankind first stood there and looked back on the little blue marble we call Earth and saw it floating in space.  Imagine!

This shot taken a few hours before the clouds obscured my eclipse!

Merry Christmas!

  1. That's a pretty incredible close up of that big ball of cheese up there... if you could zoom just a bit more we might be able to see some of the mice that live up there... too bad for the solstice eclipse cloud cover... same thing happened here, much to my regret. Hard to believe folks actually stood up there looking back here, and lived to tell the tale.

Here's a little moon tune, in case you might not have come across it before...

Happiest of holidays to you and yours...

Oh yeah, and PS, saw an article which I thought you might enjoy... which provides further proof that there are indeed Neanderthals among us, as postulated earlier :

  2. I just love it. And I love the starling that preceded it. Most folk around here see starlings as pests, but I just think Shakespeare whenever they nest in empty knots in my trees.

    Thanks for visiting moon people!

  11. That is an amazing photo! I meant to stay up and watch but didn't. Hubs did but he used the little camera (I don't let anyone touch my Canon- even though he's the one who gave it to me...LOL)

  12. Beautiful! If you saw the moon like that you must have had a great view on the eclipse as well?!
We didn't get to see it this time.
