Ducks In The House!

I can peak out my sliding glass door and look down the bank to the Pine River and see them feeding by the far side. They are my new neighbors, a family of Mallard ducks. You can tell though that these are not citified ducks such as the ones that live near my son. These Mallards are always on high alert and in order to sneak out the door and creep up to the edge of the high bank to get a picture of them it takes the height of stealth. Female Mallards are considered dull in comparison to the males but this is just human foolishness. Consider the variations in the coloring of these two buff beauties. It is fun to have them around but the season is moving along and just like the Canadian geese they will be flying off.

  10. In each snap, you have at least one duck that's a mirror image of the other. Bravo! BTW, I've got ducks on my pond today, too...

  18. Love the curved wingtips on those geese... what amazing aerodynamics that allow them to get airborne and then fly for hundreds and hundreds of miles... with built in GPS (Goose Positioning System)

  19. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I LOVE photographing birds, and even though we have winter coming up, and I might not be able to take shots every day, I have 100's in my files. Thanks for the invitation, and I will be happy to participate.
Beautiful Mallards. I always love seeing them. We have had a flock of Wood ducks on our creek all summer and I took many, many pictures of them. Super shots of the geese.
I also have a soft spot in my heart for firefighters. Our son is an interior firefighter and an EMT.
    Take care.

  28. Hi Springman

I am an artist working in the UK and I came across one of your images on the internet, at The Pine River Review, whilst designing a sculpture for a village being built near Ashford in the County of Kent.

The image of yours is two flying geese. I am collecting together photographs by other people as well which I am hoping to use with yours to create the effect of a flock of birds.

The land around the sculpture site is very low lying and there is a lot of open water in the area which attracts water birds of all types.

I will use your image as the basis for a cutting pattern, that will then be cut out of steel, to create the illusion of a goose.

If you want to take this further then I can email you more images and so on.

I hope you are interested and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,

    Bruce Williams
